(KPL) In response to the invitation of Mongolian President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa, President Thongloun Sisoulith, accompanied by spouse and his delegation, is paying a state visit to Mongolia between Jun 11 and 12 to further strengthen and enhance the friendship and cooperation between Laos and Mongolia.

An official welcome ceremony for President Thongloun was held on Jun 11 at the Sukkur Bataar airport of Mongolia before the leaders of the two countries visited Genghis Khan monument to pay tribute to the late Mongolian khan.

President Thongloun Sisoulith had a bilateral meeting with his Mongolian counterpart Khurelsukh  Ukhnaa at the State House of Mongolia in Ulaanbaatar on the same day.

Both sides informed each other of the socio-economic development in their respective countries and highly valued the growing friendship and cooperation between Laos and Mongolia over the past 6 decades.

The two sides determined the directions of future cooperation in various fields such as politics, defense, economy, agriculture, education and health.

They noted that both sides have mutual trust and support and have maintained a regular exchange of visits of high-ranking delegations of the two countries.

The leaders agreed to continue to promote cooperation on economy, trade and import-export and in other competitive sectors of the two countries, such as agricultural production, logistics, and tourism, among others.

Both sides also exchanged points of view on regional and international issues of common interest. They agreed to continue supporting each other in regional and international arenas.

President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa highly valued the state visit of President Thongloun Sisoulith and his delegation as a significant contribution to strengthening the friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

President Thongloun Sisoulith highly valued the achievements made over the past years by the Mongolian government and people.

President Thongloun invited Mongolian investors and businessmen to invest in the Lao PDR, especially in areas of animal husbandry, meat processing, agricultural production and other fast growing areas. He also invited Mongolian people to visit the Lao PDR as the country is celebrating Visit Laos Year 2024.

President Thongloun expressed his gratitude for the support and assistance of the Mongolian government to the government and people of Laos in the past.

The two presidents also witnessed the signing ceremony for three documents including a memorandum of cooperation between the Ministry of Health of the Lao PDR and the Ministry of Health of Mongolia in the sector of health and medicine; a protocol between the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Laos and the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry of Mongolia on the export of cattle, horse, sheep and goat meat from Mongolia to the Lao PDR and the hygiene requirements for animal origin products; and a memorandum of understanding on cooperation between the Ministry of Home Affairs of the Lao PDR and the Civil Service Council of Mongolia on cooperation in the field of civil service reform.
