(KPL) The Dien Bien Phu Victory has a great historical significance to the national liberation cause of the three Indochinese countries – Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia.

Seventy years ago, Vietnam won the Dien Bien Phu battle, forcing the French government to sign the Geneva Agreement in July 1954 and marking the end of the French military presence in the whole Indochina.

Ambassador of Vietnam to Laos Mr Nguyen Ba Hung said in an interview to media on May 3 that the value of the historical lesson of friendship and special solidarity between the peoples of the three Indochinese countries remains unchanged today.

“To protect this value, we must continue our cooperation, our spirit of solidarity, and work together to overcome all difficulties to defeat the enemy, strengthen our internal strength, make a decisive decision to go through all difficulties to win,” said the Vietnamese ambassador.

Ambassador Hung urged Laos and Vietnam to focus on their respective national development cause, raise the spirit of patriotism, the spirit of independence and self-reliance, self strengthening, and never accept poverty and backwardness.

Mr Nguyen Ba Hung expressed his pride for the great efforts of Lao and Vietnamese peoples in building their respective countries, highly valuing the relationship between Vietnam and Laos, and making this relationship an exemplary, pure and unique model in the world.

The Embassy of Vietnam to the Lao PDR is celebrating the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Dien Bien Phu battle.

To commemorate Vietnam’s historic day, cultural, economic and social networking events as well as sports competitions have been scheduled.

The Party and government of Laos will organize many activities to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu victory. These include a visit by a high-level delegation to Vietnam to participate in the celebration ceremony in Dien Bien Province, Vietnam on May 7.

“This is an opportunity to popularize the Dien Bien Phu victory and educate civil servants, Party members of the representative organizations of Vietnam in Laos about the glorious history of the Vietnamese ancestors in building and protecting their fatherland, the foundation of friendship and solidarity of the three Indochinese countries, especially the cooperation between Vietnam and Laos on national liberation in the past and national development and protection in today’s times, so that they have a broader understanding of that beautiful foundation and continue to protect and pass it on to future generations,” said the Vietnamese ambassador.
