President Thongloun Sisoulith (R) meets Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet in Vientiane on Mar 26

(KPL) President Thongloun Sisoulith received on Mar 26 here in Vientiane a courtesy call from Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet as the latter was on his official visit to the Lao PDR on Mar 25-26.

President Thongloun highly valued the visit of the Cambodian Prime Minister as a significant contribution to enhancing friendship and cooperation between the Lao PDR and Cambodia.

At the amicable talks, President Thongloun appreciated the successful meeting between Lao and Cambodian Prime Ministers as the two premiers could reach agreement on several issues to promote bilateral cooperation in years to come.

The President lauded the progress made in surveying and demarcating the Lao-Cambodian border, with 86% of the shared boundary now planted with permanent border markers as a result of joint efforts.

He urged the two countries to continue to work together to address demarcation issues in border areas based on the spirit of neighbourhood and increase security efforts along the border to make it a boundary of peace and cooperation.

President Thongloun also asked the two prime ministers to promote their cooperation on the development of transport and connectivity infrastructure and urge relevant ministries, sectors of the two countries to work together to promote trade, investment, and tourism to create favourable conditions for businesses of the two countries.

He called on the two countries to attach attention to translating into concrete actions the documents signed by leaders of the two countries, especially those on electricity cooperation.

In reply, the Cambodian Prime Minister expressed his commitment to working with and support the Lao PDR in years to come under both bilateral and multilateral cooperation frameworks.

He pledged to urge relevant authorities in Cambodia to continue to work closely with the Lao parties to enhance the traditional relations, comprehensive and long-lasting strategic partnership between Laos and Cambodia to bring concrete benefits to the nations and peoples of Laos and Cambodia.
