Laos to host 13th CLV Ministerial Meeting

(KPL) The Lao PDR will host the 13th Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam (CLV) Ministerial Meeting between February 26 and March 1 in the southern province of Attapeu.

The conference is one of the mechanisms of the development triangle cooperation framework of the three countries which was established in 1999 to promote peace and comprehensive socio-economic development in the border provinces of the three countries.

Since established in 1999, the CLV’s development triangle area has been welcomed by various parties, both public and private, and growing, currently covering 13 provinces of three countries including 4 provinces (Attapeu, Sekong, Saravan and Champasack) in Laos, 4 provinces (Stung Treng, Rattanakkiri, Mondulkiri and Kratie) in Cambodia and five provinces (Dak Lak, Gia Lai , Kon Tum, DakNong and BinhPhuc) of Vietnam. It is sized 144,600 sq km and has a population of about 6.7 million people.

The 13th Ministerial Meeting of the Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam Development Triangle Joint Coordination Committee and related meetings were held on the basis of coordination and cooperation which is the foundation of the three countries, which has been encouraged to move to a new level and become stronger in order to create the area for sustainable development and a border of friendship and prosperity in the future.

The 13th meeting constitutes a review and implementation of the joint statement of the 11th Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam Development Triangle Summit (CLV) which was held in 2020, via a video conference in Vientiane, and the 12th Meeting of Joint Coordination Committee on Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam Development Triangle Area (JCC CLV DTA) meeting in March 2019 in Kratie, Cambodia, the implementation of the master plan on socio-economic development in the development triangle until 2020.

The meeting will also allow the participants to discuss CLV’s action plan on economic linkages and tourism development plan as well as the directions of cooperation to promote and attract more trade, investment and tourism to the triangle area.

In order to ensure the success of the ministerial meeting of the Joint Coordinating Committee of the Development Triangle, the Lao PDR will organize various important activities such as the 13th Trade, Investment and Tourism Promotion Forum, the 9th Youth Forum, the CLV Art Exhibition, the Trade and Tourism Exhibition. The events are expected to draw a large number of delegates from the government and business sectors, youth organizations and ethnic groups of the three countries.
