(KPL) Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Saleumxay Kommasith has confirmed that Laos is ready for ASEAN chairmanship 2024.

Laos’ ASEAN chairmanship stretches between January 1 and December 31, 2024.  As the chair of ASEAN, Laos will host 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits and other related summits in October 2024.

“Preparation is almost done with few works underway including those related to accommodations and meeting venues for delegates,” Deputy Prime Minister Saleumxay Kommasith said on Nov 17.

“During the ASEAN Chairmanship Year, Laos will focus on leading ASEAN in promoting the building of ASEAN Community, and enhancing a connected and resilient ASEAN community under the theme “ASEAN: Enhancing Connectivity and Resilience”,” said the deputy premier.

Laos is expected to use its ASEAN chairmanship year to promote its foreign policy and strengthen its socio-economic cooperation with countries around the world.

For the Lao PDR, the year 2024 is not only for its resumption of ASEAN Chairmanship but also for the launch of its Visit Laos Year 2024 which is a good opportunity to promote the country’s image and attract more foreign visitors, according to the vice premier.
