When thinking of tourist destinations in Vientiane, what would come into your mind?

For those who are unable to figure out yet, let us introduce to you Hengboun Food and Culture Street, a walking street in the heart of Vientiane, that brings together a variety of dishes. As for the time being, this place is increasingly popular to both Vientiane residents and visitors.

We have interviewed users of this walking street, vendors, business people, and local residents living along the street on how they feel about the emergence of Hengboun Food and Culture Street.

Most comments suggest that the Hengboun Food and Culture Street Project is benefiting entrepreneurs in this area. Hotels receive more and more guests, vendors are happy to realize that they can manage their business in a systematic way thus minimizing their unorganized business activities. The street helps create a good source of income for local vendors.

The host community is benefiting from this project as it has turned quiet areas in front of people’s houses into small shops that bring extra incomes for their families. Some receive dividends from the project owner for their joint land lease business.

Anyone walking along this street, either by chance or intentionally will be happy to realize that this is a new landmark in the heart of Vientiane which serves as a good place to find favourite dishes and hang out with friends in the evening or on special occasions.

We would like to express sincere gratitude to the Party and government leaders at central and local levels for supporting the emergence of this Hengboun Food and Culture Street which is getting more beautiful day by day. We do hope that this street will, in the near future, become a complete walking street so that it can add colourfulness and happiness to people’s life, to families, business people, entrepreneurs using this street thus assisting the Party and government in national development.

Hengboun Food and Culture Street is located at Haysok village, Chanthaboury District, Vientiane
