(KPL) The celebration of the Lao New Year or Pi Mai Lao will be held in Vientiane between 10-16 April.
The main venues for Pi Mai Lao 2558 will be at Lao ITECC and Don Chan beach. Meanwhile places in the vicinity of the Nam Ngum River are among the popular places for Pi Mai celebrators.
The Pi Mai celebration will feature several festivities including the procession of Buddha image of Ongtue Temple in Chanthaboury on 14 Mar; the Miss Vientiane procession on 14 Mar following Miss Lao New Year contest held on 9-10 Mar; competitions of football, volleyball, and traditional sports, and alms giving at Ongtu Temple on the final day of Pi Mai.
Leading officials of Vientiane Capital will hold a traditional baci ceremony for Pi Mai on 13 April and water Buddha images at 9 temples.
“I am going to visit Vangvieng and celebrate Pi Mai there because my mom wants to go there,” said Nang, who preferred to go with a single name.
“During the upcoming Pi Mai celebration, I will visit hometown to see my parents and ask for their forgiveness for the wrongdoings I have done. It’s common to Lao people to use the Lao New Year as an opportunity for doing something to make up for what we have done that was deemed troubling or disappointing to the elderly, especially our parents, either intentionally or unintentionally,” said a government employee, in his early thirties, who preferred not to be named.
