The second ordinary session of the 10th National Assembly (NA) opened in Vientiane on October 5, 2026, with lawmakers set to consider and decide on major national issues during the 13-day session through October 21.

(KPL) The opening ceremony at the National Assembly building was attended by President Thongloun Sisoulith, Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone, NA members from across the country, government officials, diplomatic representatives and business representatives.
Acting President of the National Assembly Sounthone Sayachack said the session will focus on key national matters, including the consideration and approval of high-level personnel for the National Assembly and Government.
She said the country has maintained political stability and social order while continuing to make progress in socio-economic development. The implementation of national development targets has contributed to improvements in people's livelihoods, national development, security, social discipline and Laos' international standing.
The National Assembly will consider government reports on the implementation of the 2026 National Socio-Economic Development Plan, State Budget Plan and Monetary Plan, as well as targets for 2027.
It will also review reports from the State Audit Organization on its 2026 work plan, 2027 work plan and audit results related to implementation of the 2025 final State Budget.
The session will consider 2026 performance reports and 2027 work directions from the National Assembly, State Inspection Authority, Supreme People’s Prosecutor-General and Supreme People’s Court.
Lawmakers are also scheduled to consider and vote on eight draft laws, including the new Law on Deposit Protection and amendments to seven existing laws covering the Government, Lao People’s Army Officers, Lao People’s Public Security Forces, Civil Aviation, Road Traffic, Cybercrime Prevention and Countermeasures, and Alcoholic Beverage Control.
The session will also provide opportunities for lawmakers to raise questions and hear responses from the President, Government members and relevant sectors.
Ms Sounthone called on NA members to carry out their responsibilities with diligence, contribute their knowledge and expertise, and ensure that decisions made during the session serve national development and comply with the law.
