(KPL/VNA) Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Hien, Deputy Minister of National Defence, paid a courtesy call on Lao Minister of National Defence Senior Lieutenant General Khamlieng Outhakaysone in Vientiane on July 10.

Both host and guest expressed satisfaction with the outcomes of defence cooperation in recent years and agreed to effectively implement the 2025 cooperation plans substantively. They affirmed the need for the two armies to enhance information sharing and coordination to prevent hostile forces from undermining the two countries’ ties and their military collaboration.

They also agreed to promote personnel training, particularly high-quality human resources in fields such as information technology and digital transformation. The officials said it is also necessary to strengthen border security cooperation and raise awareness among younger generations about the great friendship between Vietnam and Laos.

Outhakaysone stated that despite complex regional and global developments, the two countries' armies and people have always stood side by side in unity and mutual support. He also noted that the Lao ministry will send a contingent to participate in the military parade marking Vietnam’s 80th National Day (September 2, 1945-2025).

On this occasion, Hien thanked the Lao Government and defence ministry for their continued support and called for more favourable conditions for Vietnamese businesses, including those from the military, to invest and operate in Laos, thereby contributing to the country’s socio-economic development and further reinforcing the nations’ great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation.
