Prime Minister Thanks Thailand for Cave Rescue Assistance

KPL Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone has expressed the Lao Government's sincere appreciation to the Government of Thailand for its support in the rescue operation for seven Lao citizens trapped in a cave in Longchaeng District, Xaysomboun Province.


In a letter sent on June 7, 2026, to Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister Sonexay thanked Thailand for allowing rescue teams from the Saitarn Association, Metta Tham Kalasin Rescue Unit, and Sawang Siwilai Rescue Unit to join the multinational search and rescue mission.

The Lao Prime Minister highly valued the timely assistance and dedication of the Thai rescue teams, which worked alongside Lao authorities and international specialists from May 24 onward. Their joint efforts led to the successful rescue of five survivors on May 29–30, while search operations continued for the remaining two missing individuals.

Prime Minister Sonexay noted that the operation demonstrated professionalism, commitment, and humanitarian solidarity. On behalf of the Lao Government, the Lao people, and the families affected, he expressed deep gratitude and admiration to all rescue personnel involved in the mission.

He emphasized that Thailand's assistance reflected the longstanding friendship, close neighborly relations, and strategic partnership for growth and sustainable development between Laos and Thailand, further strengthening the bonds between the two countries and their peoples.

The Prime Minister also conveyed his best wishes to Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and his family for good health, happiness, and continued success in their responsibilities.
