KPL The Lao government successfully concluded its two-day monthly meeting for April 2026 yesterday. Chaired by Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone, the session brought together cabinet members and provincial governors to address urgent national issues, ranging from inflation control to environmental protection.

The government reported positive strides in fiscal management despite a volatile global landscape. Key economic highlights include revenue collection reaching over 27 trillion kip, representing 33% of the annual target, inflation currently maintained at 9.7%, and foreign reserves sufficient to cover 5.2 months of imports.
Domestic and international debt repayments remained on schedule according to contractual obligations.
PM Sonexay emphasized that while Middle Eastern conflicts continue to impact global trade and fuel prices, the government’s measures have stabilized the local fuel supply.
A significant milestone was the official opening of the 500 KV Lao-China power transmission line, enhancing national energy security. The government also reaffirmed its commitment to the "Green Crisis to Opportunity" initiative, aiming for 30% electric vehicle (EV) usage by 2030.
Efforts to repair road networks nationwide and improve regional connectivity remain a priority to support trade and investment.
Looking ahead to May, the cabinet outlined several critical directives. Strict measures will be enforced to curb illegal logging and forest fires, specifically targeting the reduction of PM 2.5 air pollution, crack down on illegal mineral extraction and processing through rigorous inspections, continue to address teacher shortages and provide aid to victims of recent hailstorms in Vientiane.
The meeting also gave "in principle" approval for the 10-year Capital Market Development Strategy (2026-2035) and a new decree concerning the HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control Fund.
Closing the session, Prime Minister Siphandone urged all sectors to translate these resolutions into concrete actions with clear timelines to ensure efficient public service delivery and continued national stability.
