(KPL/Yonhap) President Lee Jae Myung and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk will hold summit talks in Seoul early next week to discuss ways to expand bilateral cooperation, Cheong Wa Dae said Friday.

Tusk will pay a two-day visit to South Korea at Lee's invitation beginning Sunday. The two leaders will hold the summit next Monday, followed by an announcement of a joint press statement and an official luncheon.

"Poland has been strengthening its mutually beneficial defense cooperation with our country amid growing political uncertainty," presidential spokesperson Kang Yu-jung said. "They plan to hold broad discussions on ways to strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries across various areas."

The two leaders will also discuss the Middle East crisis and other major geopolitical developments as Poland is a key member of the European Union and North Atlantic Treaty Organization, Kang said.

In December, Poland signed a 5.6 trillion-won (US$4 billion) contract with South Korean defense company Hanwha Aerospace Co. to import Chunmoo multiple launch rocket systems.

The upcoming summit will mark the first bilateral visit to South Korea by a Polish prime minister in 27 years.
