Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Thongsavanh Phomvihane, has received a courtesy visit from China’s ambassador following his recent appointment.

The meeting took place on the afternoon of 23 March at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Vientiane, where Fang Hong led a delegation to offer formal congratulations.
Ms Fang conveyed congratulatory messages from senior Chinese leaders after Mr Thongsavanh’s appointment was approved earlier the same day during the opening session of the 10th National Assembly.
Mr Thongsavanh expressed his appreciation for the visit and asked the ambassador to pass on his thanks to Wang Yi for his message.
Both sides reaffirmed the longstanding ties between Laos and China, often described as a relationship of “good neighbours, good friends, good comrades and good partners”.
They also reiterated their commitment to strengthening cooperation and advancing what both countries describe as a shared future.
This year marks the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Laos and China.
Officials said the Lao Ministry of Foreign Affairs is ready to coordinate with the Chinese embassy to organise commemorative activities.
Mr Thongsavanh thanked China for its continued support to Laos, while Ms Fang reaffirmed Beijing’s commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation.
Both sides said they expect relations to remain stable and continue to develop in the coming years.
