The 9th Congress of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) has officially adopted a resolution to re-elect Kim Jong Un as General Secretary of the WPK.
The decision, announced on 22 February, marks a pivotal moment in the nation’s political calendar, signifying a "dynamic advance" in the country’s comprehensive socialist construction.
The Congress described the election as an affair of "greatest significance," asserting that the leadership of the WPK is decisive to the future destiny of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).
Delegates expressed "full support and approval" for the proposal noting that the re-election is a historic appraisal of the successes achieved over the previous five-year period.
The resolution lauded Kim Jong Un as a "prominent statesman" whose leadership has guided the Party and people through significant historical challenges. Key achievements highlighted during the proceedings included the establishment of a five-point Party-building line, intended to ensure the WPK remains ideologically pure and organisationally strong, progress in the five-year plan and the implementation of a "self-supporting economy" aimed at improving the standard of living, the strengthening of the Korean People’s Army and the radical improvement of the country’s "war deterrence," with nuclear forces at its pivot.
The Congress noted that under Kim Jong Un’s guidance, the DPRK has entered a "new era of change and innovations." Specific mention was made of the "construction revolution," which has sought to eliminate backwardness in rural regions and modernise the nation's healthcare, science, and educational sectors.
The decision further emphasised Kim Jong Un’s role in raising the "dignity and prestige" of the DPRK on the international stage through seasoned external activities and a steadfast revolutionary principle.
The resolution concluded by stating that the election reflects the "unshakable will and unanimous desire" of millions of Party members, service personnel, and the public. By holding Kim Jong Un in high esteem as the "centre of unity," the WPK aims to guarantee the continued prosperity of the state and the eventual victory of the socialist cause.
