(KPL) Over the past five years, the National Defense and Security Central Commission has focused on strengthening political foundations and ensuring national stability, particularly in remote, border, and strategically important areas.

During this period, efforts were concentrated on implementing the four key contents and four targets for political foundation building, alongside the construction of strategic rear areas linked with the development of border village clusters. These initiatives were implemented in coordination with national defense field construction projects and aligned with socio-economic development plans, ensuring close integration between economic development and defense and security tasks.

At the 12th National Congress of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, the Minister of National Defense, Mr. Khamlieng Outhakaysone, reported that national defense and security work over the past five years was carried out with a strong sense of responsibility and achieved the set political objectives. Despite challenges, implementation progressed under the Party’s leadership, with close coordination among central agencies, local authorities, mass organizations, and the Lao people of all ethnic groups, as well as cooperation with friendly countries.

The implementation and expansion of resolutions of the Party’s 11th National Congress on national defense and security contributed to maintaining firm political stability, social peace, and public order, creating favorable conditions for continuous socio-economic development.

In parallel, the commission focused on reviewing and revising the National Defense Strategy and related legislation to align with the evolving national and regional context. This work provided a legal and strategic basis for managing national defense areas more effectively and strengthening preparedness through the reorganization and relocation of certain headquarters and military units in key strategic directions.

Attention was also given to combating crime, particularly cybercrime. With the rapid expansion of information technology and online platforms, authorities identified increasing risks related to fraud, theft of confidential information, and attacks on financial systems. Hostile activities exploiting online channels to distort information and undermine social stability were closely monitored.

Through guidance from the Party and Government, coordination among relevant sectors, and the strict performance of duties by officials, preventive measures were strengthened, incidents were addressed in a timely manner, and threats to national security and socio-economic stability were effectively contained.
