KPL Senior Party and State leaders of the Lao PDR, led by President Thongloun Sisoulith, Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone, and President of the National Assembly Xaysomphone Phomvihane, together with their spouses, received courtesy calls on Nov 30 from ambassadors and representatives of international organizations accredited to the Lao PDR. The delegation conveyed congratulations on the 50th Anniversary of the Founding of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic and the upcoming International New Year 2026.

Speaking on behalf of the diplomatic corps, Eddy Ewan Bin Mamut, Ambassador of Malaysia to Laos and Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, extended warm congratulations to the Government and the multi-ethnic people of Laos on the country’s historic milestone.

He also conveyed congratulations to the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP) on the occasion of its 70th anniversary, noting the Party’s steadfast leadership through decades of significant national transformation.

Ambassador Eddy Ewan Bin Mamut praised the Lao PDR’s achievements in recent years, highlighting its successful chairmanship of ASEAN on several occasions—an illustration, he said, of the country’s growing diplomatic capacity and its commitment to strengthening ASEAN centrality, regional stability, and cooperation.

He further commended the active engagement of ambassadors and international representatives across the country, noting that these efforts have helped advance friendship and cooperation between their respective countries and the Lao PDR.

The diplomatic corps, he emphasized, remains committed to further strengthening these partnerships.

President Thongloun expressed gratitude on behalf of the Party, Government, and the Lao people. He thanked Ambassador Eddy Ewan Bin Mamut for the congratulatory remarks, describing them as an encouraging recognition of Laos’ achievements over the past half-century. The warm sentiments expressed by the ambassadors, he said, reflect the enduring friendship and productive cooperation between Laos and the international community.

President Thongloun also conveyed deep appreciation to all friendly nations and international organizations for their long-standing support. Such assistance, he noted, has played an important role in enabling Laos to overcome numerous challenges and advance national development priorities. He reaffirmed Laos’ commitment to contributing actively to international cooperation mechanisms to promote peace, stability, security, and sustainable development at regional and global levels.

Reflecting on the country’s trajectory since 1975, President Thongloun underscored the Lao PDR’s transformation from a war-torn nation with a fragile economic base to a country that has made “commendable progress” in improving living standards and developing essential infrastructure. These achievements, he said, were built on the foundation laid by President Kaysone Phomvihane and the country’s adherence to its policy of national renovation.

As the International New Year 2026 approaches, President Thongloun extended best wishes to the ambassadors, international representatives, their governments, and their peoples.
