(KPL) President Thongloun Sisoulith warmly received here in Vientiane on Feb 20 Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, who paid a courtesy call during his official visit to the Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR) from Feb 20-21, 2025.
On this occasion, President Thongloun, who is also Secretary General of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, expressed his warm welcome and high appreciation for the official visit of Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla and his delegation.
He noted that this visit holds significant meaning as it aims to further strengthen and deepen the longstanding fraternal friendship and cooperation between Laos and Cuba, which has been nurtured over many years.
During their discussions, President Thongloun expressed his satisfaction with the continuous strengthening of relations and cooperation between the two Parties, governments, and peoples of Laos and Cuba.
He emphasized that Laos and Cuba are strategic partners and fraternal nations with a long history of excellent cooperation. The political relations between the two countries are at an excellent level and continue to grow stronger, with consistent coordination, communication, and mutual support at regional and international arenas.
Notably, in 2024, the two countries jointly celebrated the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations with great enthusiasm.
Cooperation in other areas between the two countries has also continued to expand, with both sides seeking ways to collaborate in fields of potential, such as human resource development, education, sports, public health, agriculture, among others.
Both sides are committed to promoting and enhancing economic and trade cooperation alongside their strong political ties.
On the same occasion, Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla expressed his sincere gratitude for the warm reception and outlined the purpose and plans for his visit to the Lao PDR. He also provided a brief update on socio-economic development in Cuba.
The Cuban foreign minister agreed with President Thongloun’s assessment of the relations and cooperation between the two countries.
He highly valued the Laos-Cuba relationship and the direction for further enhancing bilateral cooperation in the future, particularly in implementing and expanding strategic friendship cooperation into more concrete action plans.
At the end of the meeting, President Thongloun also conveyed his greetings to First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of Cuba Miguel Díaz-Canel, and invited him to visit the Lao PDR at a convenient and appropriate time.
