(KPL) UNICEF Representative to Laos Pia Rebello Britto visited the Thogkang Primary School in Vientiane on Oct 8, 2020 to show gratitude to the teachers there and all the teachers in Laos for their dedication and hard work in nurturing the future generation of the country.
“I am delighted to be here today surrounded by the teachers and students of Thogkang Primary School as we just celebrated this week World Teachers Day on 5 October under the theme "Teachers: Leading in crisis, reimagining the future", and Teachers' Day in Laos yesterday, the 7th of October,” said Pia Rebello Britto.
She congratulated the government's excellent leadership in managing to contain the spread of COVID-19, recognized the tremendous efforts of the Ministry of Education and Sports on its COVID-19 response, and acknowledged the generous contributions and commitment from different partners such as the European Union.

“Lao PDR is seen as a good example globally with respect to the reopening of schools. While schools were briefly closed from March to early June, the re-opening went well, and students were able to safely go back to school, with clear guidelines and protocols shared. A COVID-19 Education Response Plan was prepared right at the outset,” said the UNICEF Representative.

UNICEF has supported the Ministry of Education and Sports and worked with development partners in delivering the COVID-19 response.
The COVID-19 pandemic has created the largest disruption of education systems in history, affecting 94 per cent of the world's student population.
