“The Lao PDR has abundant hydropower resources which are
clean energy sources. Over the last few years, the Lao government has considered
energy as an important sector in the socio-economic development strategy, and
as a fundamental factor for industrialization and modernization,” said Deputy Director,
Department of Energy Policy and Planning, Ministry of Energy and Mines, Mr
Daovong Phonekeo. “Therefore, the Ministry of Energy and Mines has devised a
strategic framework to develop electricity industry to ensure power consumption
in the country and power export.”
We are happy with the energy cooperation between Laos
and the Republic of Korea, especially the cooperation between EDL and KEPCO.
The two companies are conducting a feasibility study into building and upgrading
conventional substations to gas insulated substations (GISs), Mr Daovong added.

“Companies participating in this export promotion meeting are promising export SMEs recognized by KEPCO for exporting a wide range of electrical equipment ranging from switchgears, transformers and meters to ESS, LED lights and junction boxes,” said Vice President, Korea Electric Power Corporation, Mr Choi Myeong Ho.
“We want to find a way to strengthen cooperation between KEPCO and Lao eclectic power companies for technology exchange and will invite power officials to participate in promising exhibitions to be held in Korea this year in November,” he added.
