(KPL) The Xekong Provincial Department of Planning and Investment has signed a project development agreement with MP Construction Company for the construction of three small hydropower dams on the Huay Yeuang River in Dak Chung district.
The agreement was signed on Feb 19 at the office of the provincial department by the director of the department Thongkham Manivong and Director of MP Construction Company Manotham Phetsiriseng in the presence of Deputy Governor of Xekong Leklay Sivilay, and representatives of authorities concerned.
“The feasibility study into the project has been conducted since July 14, 2017 and its findings were satisfactory, so the company has sought permission from local authorities to proceed with developing the project,” said Mr Manotham.
According to the agreement, 3 small hydroelectric dams with a total installed generation capacity of 33 megawatts (annual gross generation of 139.39 gigawatts) will be built on the river.
The dams include Huay Yeuang 3 (9 megawatts), Huay Yeuang 5 (10 megawatts), and Huay Yeuang 7 with an installed generation capacity of 63.5 gigawatts.
These projects are expected to be completed in three years, according to Mr Manotham.
The electricity generated by the Huay Yeuang dams will be sold to Électricité du Laos (EDL).
“Once completed as planned, the development project will contribute significantly to the socio-economic development in Xekong Province,” added Manotham.
