(KPL) Mr Bousakone Ketmala, Head of the Nong Nonkhiane International Border Checkpoint has confirmed that the checkpoint will provide faster service to inbound and outbound visitors crossing the Lao and Cambodian border.
The move is among efforts to ensure better inflow of foreign visitors and promote Visit Laos Year 2018.
“To ensure visitors can travel through the border checkpoint conveniently, the management of the Nong Nonkhiane International Border Checkpoint has improved facilities with modern technology installed to improve work environment of our officials so that they can provide better immigration service for visitors crossing the common border of Laos and Cambodia,” Mr Bousakone told Lao News Agency’s reporter last Saturday.

Nong
Nonkhiane is an international border checkpoint located between
Champassak of Laos and Stung Treng of Cambodia. Visitors tend to use the
checkpoint to travel between Ho Chi Minh, southern Vietnam, and
Cambodia as they will travel a shorter distance, around 400 km shorter
than traveling through border checkpoints in Attapeu and other nearby
provinces.
Around 61,000 visitors traveled through the Nong Nonkhiane International Border Checkpoint in 2017.
Most
of the tourists were foreign visitors who tended to visit well-known
tourist attractions in the southernmost province of the country
including Khonephapheng waterfall, Liphee Waterfall, and the World
Heritage Vat Phou Champassak.
The
Nong Nokkhiane – Trapeang Kriel Border Checkpoint was upgraded as an
international border checkpoint last year with an aim to promote
socio-economic development, tourism, trade, investment in the province
and ASEAN connectivity integration.
