
(KPL) Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith on Jan 15 visited Myanmar in response to the invitation of Myanmar President Htin Kyaw to strengthen the relations and cooperation between the two neighbours.
The visit was the first of its kind since Prime Minister Thongloun took his office in 2016.
At the bilateral talks held in Nay Pyi Taw, the capital city of Myanmar, Prime Minister Thongloun and Myanmar President Htin Kyaw highly valued the good relations and cooperation as well as the exchanges of visits between Laos and Myanmar.
Mr Thongloun expressed thanks to the president, government and people of Myanmar for their warm hospitality and congratulated the Myanmar government and people on the achievements they had made in national development over the past years.
Prime Minister Thongloun conveyed warm greetings from President Bounnhang Vorachit to his Myanmar counterpart Htin Kyaw.
Welcoming the Lao premier, President Htin Kyaw said he highly valued the premier’s visit adding that the visit would further strengthen the relations and cooperation between Laos and Myanmar.
Three documents were also signed on Monday, the first day of the two-day official visit of Prime Minister Thongloun. These included the memorandam of understanding on electricity cooperation, science and technology cooperation and on anti-corruption cooperation.
The signing was witnessed by PM Thongloun and Myanmar State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi after both sides held talks and PM Thongloun invited Aung San Suu Kyi to pay an official visit to Laos to further enhance the bilateral ties and cooperation between the two countries.
KPL
