
The 4th ordinary session of the National Assembly’s 8th legislature was opened on Monday
(KPL) The 4th ordinary session of the National Assembly’s 8th legislature was opened today at the National Convention Centre in Vientiane in the presence of President of the National Assembly Pany Yathortou, her deputies, and people’s representatives.
President Bounnhang Vorachit, Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith and his cabinet members, and retired senior Party and government officials also attended the opening ceremony of the NA’s meeting which will last till Nov 17.
The first day of the session witnessed Prime Minister reading a report on the performance of the government in the past months.
Minister of Planning and Investment Souphanh Keomixay reported to the meeting on the implementation of the national socio-economic development plan of the government for 2017 and presented new plan for 2018.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Somdy Douangdy reported to the meeting on the implementation of the state budget plan 2017 and introduced new plan for the 2018.
Over the next one month, the National Assembly will use its ongoing ordinary session to consider and make decisions on issues of national importance including a report by the government on its implementation of the socio-economic development plan, the state budget plan, and monetary plan in the past months and plans for 2018, a report on the implementation of tourism plan in the past years and preparations for the launch of Visit Laos Year 2018 along with reports by the State Inspection Authority, the People’s Supreme Court, the Supreme Public Prosecutor’s Office and the National Assembly.
Lawmakers are expected to consider and approve at their ongoing ordinary session 9 new laws and 7 amended laws.
“The issues listed for consideration at this meeting include several important issues and are cross cutting. Therefore based on the spirit of solidarity, responsibility and commitment to serve the national and public interest, on behalf of the standing committee of the National Assembly, I would like to ask all of you members of the National Assembly to brainstorm your ideas and exert your democratic rights to consider and exchange points of view on the issues listed for discussion at this meeting in a qualitative manner thus contributing to the success of the meeting and meeting development and public requirements,” said President of the National Assembly Pany Yathortou.
