Preparation is made for destroying smuggled beef
(KPL) More than 400 kg of smuggled cattle meat and internal organs were reportedly buried in Vientiane Capital on March 29.
The event was witnessed by authorities of the Im-Ex Inspection Department under the Ministry of Industry and Commerce and relevant sectors.
Large quantities of cattle meat and internal organs, which were smuggled from neighbouring Vietnam via the Laobao International Crossing Border Checkpoint, had been seized in Vientiane markets during routine inspections of the Im-Ex Inspection Department.
“We have found many kinds of goods that were smuggled and unacceptable by the Food and Drugs Department,” said Director of the Import-Export Inspection Department, Mr Somxay Nongarth.
This issue has been a concern for a long time and consumers have called on relevant sectors, especially commerce, food and drugs, livestock and fisheries sectors to enforce strict inspection and destroy seized smuggle goods.
Mr Somxay called on all sectors, especially public consumers to keep an eye out and report suspected goods and illegal products via this hotline – 1510 or 021 990 113 – of the Commerce Inspection Department during working hours.
