(KPL) The Ministry of Post and Telecommunications (MPT) of the Lao government has banned entrepreneurs, legal entities and individual companies from importing or distributing satellite signal equipment.
The purpose is to ensure the quality and standards of ICT equipment, especially satellite signal dishes, and to protect social order and the security of consumers in society.
In the past, many companies imported receivers for resale in local markets but the receivers were built to receive satellite signals from other foreign countries. In addition, satellite signals of other countries have been serviced in Laos without permission from the MPT. This violates relevant regulations, the MPT said in the letter of request.
Entrepreneurs, legal entities and individual must send information about the equipment and details about it to authorities at least 15 days before plans can be made to import it.
