The meeting, held in Vientiane, focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation between Laos and Cuba, with a specific emphasis on the media sector.

The Lao delegation included directors and deputy directors from various departments within the Propaganda and Training Board, including representatives from the Lao News Agency (KPL), Lao National Television, Lao National Radio, the Mass Media Department, the Pasaxon Newspaper, the Information Department, and the Board’s office.

Strengthening Long-standing Ties

During the discussions, Mr Sakhone Phommalath extended a warm welcome to the Cuban Ambassador, noting that the visit serves to exchange valuable insights and further solidify the enduring friendship and cooperation between the two nations. He highlighted that this partnership spans several key sectors, including politics, education and sport, agriculture, and public health.

The Deputy Head remarked that relations between the two parties and states have seen consistent growth, evidenced by frequent exchange of visits of senior officials at all levels and collaborative seminars aimed at sharing professional expertise. 

Focus on Media Cooperation

Regarding media collaboration, both parties acknowledged the existing information-sharing agreement between the Lao News Agency (KPL) and Cuba's Prensa Latina.

Looking ahead, both sides are exploring avenues to broaden this cooperation. Future initiatives discussed include encouraging new cooperation agreements between various media organisations of both countries, organising exchange programmes for media delegations, and facilitating the timely exchange of news and information.

Such efforts are intended to foster greater mutual understanding and closer ties between the peoples of Laos and Cuba.
