On February 10, 2026, the 162nd Mekong River Joint Patrol Cooperation and Exchange Meeting between four nations—China, Laos, Myanmar, and Thailand—was held in Huaysay District, Bokeo Province.

The meeting was attended by high-ranking security officials, including Maj. Gen. Lee Xujun, Deputy Head of Yunnan Public Security Department's marine patrol team, China; Col. Sengpheth Sengmany, Chief of the Bokeo Provincial Military Command, Laos; Lt. Col. Ong Myat Mo, Chief of Police for Ban Pung, Tachileik District, Myanmar; and Col. Montri, Deputy Commander of the 5th Infantry Division, Thailand.

Representatives from the military and police forces of Bokeo and Luang Namtha provinces, along with various delegations from the four nations, were also in attendance.

The participants reviewed past cooperation regarding border protection and law enforcement along the Upper Mekong River. Key areas of discussion included efforts to combat illegal border crossings, smuggling, and drug trafficking.

The meeting highlighted the close coordination between the four countries, emphasizing their commitment to maintaining peace and order along the river. These efforts are built upon a foundation of solidarity, friendship, and mutual assistance.

Future Outlook and Regional Stability

Looking ahead, the four parties reached a consensus on several strategic directions:

Preparation for the 163rd Joint Patrol: Coordinating logistics for the upcoming mission.

Deepening Cooperation: Enhancing the level of coordination between border defense forces to ensure a more integrated approach to regional security.

Building Peace Borders: Working together to transform border areas into zones of peace, friendship, and sustainable development.

Information Sharing: Committing to the regular and consistent exchange of intelligence and information.
