KPL - Asean 2024 Lao government agencies have received specialized training in water rescue techniques to strengthen their preparedness for floods and climate-related disasters.

(KPL) Lao government agencies have received specialized training in water rescue techniques to strengthen their preparedness for floods and climate-related disasters.

The training, held from June 30 to July 2, was jointly organized by the Secretariat of the MRC and China’s National Disaster Reduction Center (NDRCC). It aimed to equip officials from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare, and other relevant sectors with critical skills in water rescue operations.

Participants from both central and local levels engaged in theoretical sessions and hands-on field exercises at Nong Chan Station, located behind the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology in Akad Village, Sikhottabong District, Vientiane Capital.

Beyond technical training, the course also created a platform for sharing experiences and strategies in disaster response and climate change adaptation.

As part of the same program, the NDRCC and the Lao-German Cooperation (GIZ) handed over two rescue boats and 50 life jackets to the Lao authorities. The equipment was officially received by Mr. Phonepaseuth Phouliphanh, Head of the National Secretariat of the National Mekong Committee, under the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.

The event forms part of a trilateral cooperation framework between Lao PDR, China, and GIZ, aimed at enhancing national capacity for flood and disaster risk management.
