National Assembly Approves Appointment of New Minister of Foreign Affairs

KPL - Asean 2024 Today, the National Assembly has officially approved the appointment of Mr. Thongsavanh Phomvihane as the new Minister of Foreign Affairs. Mr. Thongsavanh, who also serves as head of the Party Central Committee’s Foreign Relations Commission, succeeds Mr. Saleumxay Kommasith in the role.

(KPL) – Today, the National Assembly has officially approved the appointment of Mr. Thongsavanh Phomvihane as the new Minister of Foreign Affairs. Mr. Thongsavanh, who also serves as head of the Party Central Committee’s Foreign Relations Commission, succeeds Mr. Saleumxay Kommasith in the role.

The decision was finalized during the 8th Ordinary Session of the 9th Legislature of the National Assembly on November 18, 2024, following Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone’s Proposal No. 110/PM, dated November 12, regarding cabinet appointments and transfers.

The Standing Committee of the National Assembly convened an extraordinary session on November 15, led by Vice President of the National Assembly Ms. Sounthone Sayachak, to deliberate and endorse the resolution.

Mr. Saleumxay Kommasith, who previously served as both Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, has been reassigned as Minister to the Prime Minister’s Office.
