(KPL) Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone joined voters in Champasak Province on February 22, 2026, casting his ballot in the elections for the 10th National Assembly and the 5th Provincial People’s Councils.

Mr. Sonexay, a member of the Party Central Committee Political Bureau and the No. 1 candidate for the 10th National Assembly representing Champasak, voted alongside residents at the Provincial Hall polling station in Xok-amnouay Village, Pakse City, Champassak Province.

The voting took place in a lively and orderly atmosphere, with senior provincial leaders, election officials, candidates, former leaders, and local residents participating in the polling process.

Officials attending included Mr. Alounxay Sounnalath, Secretary of the Champassak Provincial Party Committee and President of the Provincial Election Committee; Mr. Vannaxay Xatthakoun, Secretary of the Pakse City Party Committee and candidate for the Champassak Provincial People’s Council; Mr. Souksavanh Vilayvong, Governor of Champassak Province; along with other provincial and district authorities.

Mr. Soukvixay Sisomvang, Mayor of Pakse City, said the election reflects the democratic rights of the multi-ethnic Lao people.

Province-wide, Champassak recorded 615 polling units serving a population of over 803,000, including over 404,000 women. A total of over 461,000 citizens were eligible to vote, including more than 234,000 women.

In Pakse City, 67 polling stations across 42 villages served almost 49,000 eligible voters, including over 25,000 women.
