(KPL) Leaders of the Lao Red Cross and the International Committee of the Red Cross met in Laos to strengthen cooperation and expand humanitarian support nationwide.

On February 19, 2026, Khamlavan Chanthalavan, President of the Lao Red Cross, received Jurg Montani, Head of the ICRC Regional Delegation based in Bangkok, during an official working visit.

Mr. Khamlavan outlined the organization’s humanitarian mandate, highlighting nine priority areas: emergency relief and disaster response, blood donation mobilization and safe supply, primary healthcare promotion, first aid services, rescue operations, resource mobilization, volunteer development, restoring family links, and international cooperation. All activities adhere to the seven fundamental principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.

Mr. Montani introduced himself following his appointment as Head of the Regional Delegation and commended the Lao Red Cross for its institutional development and expanding role in humanitarian service delivery.

Both sides reviewed past cooperation and discussed future strategies to enhance the effectiveness of humanitarian assistance for the people of Laos.
