Lao PDR Casts Votes: Party Secretary General and State Leaders Cast Their Ballots
Party Secretary General and State President Thongloun Sisoulith casts his vote at Thaphalanexay polling station this morning
Across the country, other high-ranking Party and State leaders were seen exercising their democratic rights and duties.
Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone cast his votes at the Sokamnuay polling station in Pakse City, Champassak Province, while Xaysomphone Phomvihane, President of the National Assembly and Chairman of the National Election Committee, cast his ballots at Sibounheuang Temple of Vientiane’s Chanthaboury district.

The general election for the 2026–2030 tenure provides Lao citizens with the opportunity to select representatives who meet the rigorous criteria required to advocate for the rights and interests of the country’s multi-ethnic Lao people.
Nationwide, over 4.76 million people have been registered to cast their vote. These include more than 23,300 citizens casting ballots abroad.
From the early hours of the morning, polling stations across the Lao PDR saw a steady stream of citizens eager to participate in the formation of the legislative bodies.
Overseas Voting in Beijing
Earlier, on 11 February 2026, the Lao Ambassador to China, Somphone Sichaleun, cast his ballots for representatives to the 10th National Assembly and the 5th Provincial People’s Councils at the Lao Embassy in Beijing. Joining the Ambassador to exercise their voting rights were more than 40 people, including embassy staff, Lao officials, students, and citizens currently residing in China.
