(VNA/KPL) The People's Action Party of Singapore (PAP) secured a stronger mandate in the general election on May 3, reaffirming its position as the ruling party for more than six consecutive decades, according to official results released early May 4.

The PAP won 87 out of the 97 elected seats in Parliament, while the opposition Workers’ Party (WP) retained its 10 seats.

The PAP also increased its share of the popular vote to 65.57%, up from 61.24% in the 2020 election.

This year’s election was particularly notable as it marked the first time Prime Minister Lawrence Wong led the PAP into a general election, following his succession of Lee Hsien Loong in May 2024.
