Lao Bodybuilders Exceed Expectations, Return Home with 3 Gold Medals from 58th Asian Championships

KPL - Asean 2024 The Lao national bodybuilding team received a warm and honourable welcome upon returning home on September 30, following an outstanding performance that exceeded expectations at the 58th Asia Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championship in Bangkok, Thailand.

The delegation arrived at Wattay International Airport on Wednesday afternoon, led by Mr. Khamphaphaivanh Vongsay, Vice President and General Secretary of the Lao Bodybuilding Federation.

Welcoming the athletes at the airport were Mrs. Phoutsavath Vongphachan, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Sports (MoES); Mr. Bounma Thammavong, Deputy Director General of the Department of High-Performance Sports; alongside federation executives, family members, local fans, and media representatives.

The championship, held from September 22–28, 2026, brought together competitors from 44 nations across the continent. Represented by a 7-athlete squad, the Lao PDR delivered a historic showing, securing a total of 3 gold medals and 3 silver medals.

World Championships

In an airport interview, Mr. Khamphaphaivanh expressed immense pride in the team's historic achievement. Looking forward, he announced that the Lao PDR is now 100% ready to host the upcoming World Championships.

The country plans to field a competitive team of over 30 athletes for the global event and has called on the Lao public to turn out in full force to support and cheer on the national team.
