Laos–China Launch New International Passenger Route
The launch ceremony was held on April 11, 2026, at the ASEAN Integrated International Transport Service Centre in Xishuangbanna, Yunnan Province, China. The event was attended by representatives from relevant authorities of both Laos and China.
The newly established route links Jinghong City in Yunnan Province, China, with Xiengkok Village in Long District, Luang Namtha Province, Laos. The route covers a distance of approximately 280 kilometres, beginning in Jinghong and passing through the Mohan border checkpoint before entering Lao territory.
According to officials, both sides have agreed to operate one passenger bus per day in each direction, ensuring a consistent and reliable service for travellers.
The new route is expected to significantly improve accessibility for residents, traders, and tourists travelling between northern Laos and southern China. It will also provide a safer and more convenient transportation option.
In addition, the route is anticipated to strengthen economic and trade cooperation, promote cultural exchange, and support the continued growth of tourism between the two countries.
