Lao Official Meets Russian Deputy Minister to Boost Digital Cooperation

(KPL) Sakhone Phommalath, Deputy Head of the Commission for Information and Education of the Central Committee, received a courtesy visit from Alexander Shoitov, Deputy Minister of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media of the Russian Federation, on April 3, 2026, in Vientiane.

The meeting, held at the Commission’s reception hall, included a delegation of Russian IT companies and formed part of their working visit to the Lao PDR.

Sakhone Phommalath expressed a warm welcome and praised the visit as a meaningful step toward strengthening the long-standing friendship, solidarity, and cooperation between Laos and Russia.

He noted that the engagement would help deepen ties not only between the two governments but also between their peoples.

Discussions focused on expanding cooperation in key priority areas of Laos’ development agenda, including advancing digital government systems, strengthening cybersecurity, and exploring the integration of artificial intelligence technologies.

Both sides also emphasized the importance of human resource development, particularly through specialized training for government officials at central and local levels to build technical expertise in digital communications.

Alexander Shoitov expressed appreciation for the warm reception and outlined the objectives of his delegation’s visit, highlighting Russia’s readiness to support Laos in digital transformation and technical cooperation.

The meeting concluded with Sakhone Phommalath extending his best wishes to the Russian delegation for a successful visit and a safe return home.
