(KPL) Elections for members of the 10th National Assembly (NA) and the 5th Provincial People’s Assemblies (PPA) will be held on 22 February 2026, following a presidential decree officially designating the date as election day.
The announcement was confirmed by Mr. Chaleun Yiapaoher, Vice President of the National Assembly and Spokesperson of the National Election Committee, during a media briefing on 3 December 2025. He stated that the upcoming elections hold significant political importance for the Lao people, who are recognised in the 2025 Constitution as the holders of state power.
Mr. Chaleun noted that eligible voters nationwide will elect representatives to the National Assembly and Provincial People’s Assemblies, who will exercise legislative authority on behalf of the people at central and local levels. He emphasised that these elected bodies play a vital role in safeguarding national and community interests, protecting citizens’ rights, and contributing to the country’s broader development goals.
He added that preparations for the elections are under way, with the period from now until 7 January 2026 dedicated to disseminating election materials and promoting public awareness of voting procedures. He urged all eligible voters to carefully study the information to ensure they can exercise their rights correctly and in accordance with the law.
Mr. Chaleun also called on citizens across the country to be ready—both mentally and physically—to participate in the elections, helping to ensure that the process proceeds smoothly and meets the objectives set at the national level.
