A commemorative ceremony on 11 November 2025 marked the completion of the installations along the newly designated “ASEAN-Korea Olle,” highlighting the growing friendship between ASEAN and the Republic of Korea.
The project is the result of a year-long collaboration that began with Route 8’s designation as the ASEAN-Korea Olle last November, commemorating the 35th anniversary of ASEAN-Korea Dialogue Relations.

Inspired by Jeju’s volcanic landscape, the benches were designed to harmonize with the island’s natural beauty while offering visitors a place to rest and “experience ASEAN” amidst Jeju’s breathtaking scenery.
Secretary General Kim Jae-shin of the ASEAN-Korea Centre (AKC) emphasized that the design reflects Jeju’s unique topography, while Ambassador Wong Kai Jiun highlighted the initiative’s role in strengthening people-to-people ties, a cornerstone of the ASEAN-ROK partnership.

The ceremony also celebrated the first anniversary of the ASEAN-ROK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, underscoring growing momentum in cultural and economic cooperation. Jeju remains a top travel destination for ASEAN visitors, supported by new direct flights from Singapore and upcoming talks to upgrade the ASEAN-Korea Free Trade Area (AKFTA), expected to begin in early 2026.
Implemented jointly by the ASEAN-Korea Centre, the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, and the Jeju Olle Foundation, the installation symbolizes a lasting connection — linking destinations, people, and hearts across the region.
