(KPL) On 5 November 2025, Mrs Pany Yathotou, Vice President of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, represented President Thongloun Sisoulith in attending a wreath-laying ceremony to pay respects following the passing of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother of Thailand.

The ceremony took place at the Dusit Maha Prasat Palace within the Grand Palace in Bangkok. Her Majesty passed away on 24 October 2025 at the age of 93.

A Life of Dedication and Service

Born on 12 August 1932, Her Majesty Queen Sirikit married His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great (Rama IX) on 28 April 1950. The royal couple had four children: Princess Ubol Ratana Rajakanya Sirivadhana Barnavadi, His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn (Rama X), Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, and Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn Walailak.

Throughout her life, the Queen Mother devoted herself to supporting King Bhumibol Adulyadej in numerous royal development projects aimed at improving the well-being of the Thai people and fostering sustainable national progress.

Strengthening Laos–Thailand Relations

Her Majesty played an important role in promoting friendship and cooperation between Thailand and neighbouring countries, including Laos. She accompanied King Rama IX on official visits both domestically and abroad, including the opening of the First Lao–Thai Friendship Bridge linking Vientiane and Nong Khai. Her visit to Laos, at the invitation of former President Nouhak Phoumsavanh, further deepened the strong and enduring bonds between the two nations.

Message of Condolence

The participation of Vice President Pany Yathotou at the ceremony expressed the Lao Government’s and people’s deepest condolences to the Thai Royal Family, the Government, and the people of Thailand. It also paid tribute to the Queen Mother’s lifelong dedication to the public good and her significant contributions to strengthening relations between Laos and Thailand.

During the visit, Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, representing His Majesty King Rama X, graciously received Mrs Pany Yathotou and held a meeting with her at the Grand Palace.
