Luang Prabang Targets 70 Medals at 12th National Games

(KPL) Luang Prabang Province is preparing to send a strong delegation of 371 athletes, coaches, and officials to compete in 21 sports at the 12th National Games, to be held in Vientiane Capital from November 15-25, 2025.

The province has set an ambitious goal of winning 70 medals including 16 gold, 21 silver, and 33 bronze across various disciplines such as boxing, sepaktakraw, chinlone, football, basketball, petanque, archery, volleyball (indoor and beach), badminton, swimming, chess, top spinning, tennis, table tennis, wushu, taekwondo, shooting, Lao boxing–Lao aerobics (Fawn-Lao), athletics, boat racing, karate-do, and golf.

Mr. Sulidet Keoboualaphet, Head of the Education and Sports Department of Luang Prabang Province, told local media that preparations have been comprehensive. The department has coordinated with provincial sports federations to select qualified athletes and coaches, while ensuring proper accommodation and logistical support for the delegation.

He added that readiness reports have been compiled for each sport, covering athlete numbers, training equipment, schedules, and medal expectations.

In the 11th National Games held in Xiengkhouang Province in 2022, Luang Prabang ranked 10th overall, winning 75 medals, 12 gold, 21 silver, and 42 bronze from 22 sports events.

The 12 gold medals came from swimming (4), wushu (2), shooting (1), Lao aerobics/Fawn-Lao (1), karate-do (1), archery (1), athletics (1), and sepaktakraw (1).

Silver medals were earned in swimming (3), wushu (1), shooting (2), Lao aerobics/Fawn-Lao (2), karate-do (2), archery (1), athletics (1), taekwondo (2), boxing (2), basketball (2), chess (1), petanque (1), and top spinning (1).

Bronze medals came from swimming (3), wushu (5), shooting (8), Lao aerobics/Fawn-Lao (5), karate-do (1), sepaktakraw (3), taekwondo (7), boxing (1), petanque (1), chess (2), tennis (3), women’s football (1), table tennis (1), and cycling (1).
