(KPL) At the invitation of Ms. Battsetseg Batmunkh, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia, Mr. Thongsavanh Phomvihane, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Lao PDR, accompanied by his spouse and delegation, paid an official visit to Mongolia from August 19–23, 2025. The visit also included his participation in the 10th Forum for East Asia–Latin America Cooperation (FEALAC) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.
During bilateral talks on August 20, Minister Thongsavanh extended congratulations on the 819th anniversary of Mongolia’s National Day and on Ms. Battsetseg’s reappointment as Foreign Minister in June 2025. He also extended an invitation for her to visit the Lao PDR at a mutually convenient time.
Both sides exchanged views on recent domestic developments and commended each other’s socio-economic achievements. They reaffirmed the longstanding friendship, solidarity, and cooperation between Laos and Mongolia, which has steadily advanced over the past 63 years. This was underscored by the state visit of President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa to Laos in 2023 and the state visit of President Thongloun Sisoulith to Mongolia in 2024.
The two ministers agreed to further expand cooperation in multiple areas, including foreign affairs, parliamentary and defense exchanges, economy, trade, culture, tourism, agriculture, health, railway connectivity, and aviation. They also stressed the importance of implementing previously signed agreements and promoting regular high-level visits to deliver tangible benefits for both nations.
Looking forward, the ministers discussed plans to upgrade bilateral relations, organize joint activities to mark the 65th anniversary of diplomatic ties in 2027, and strengthen coordination in regional and international fora.
Minister Battsetseg warmly welcomed her Lao counterpart on his first official visit since assuming office in late 2024. She reaffirmed her commitment to working closely with the Lao side to further consolidate the traditional friendship and good cooperation between the two countries. Later the same day, she hosted a reception in honor of the Lao delegation.
