Lao Ambassador Presents Credentials to the President of Austria

On July 11, 2025, at the Office of the President in Vienna, Republic of Austria, Mr. Khampheng Douangthongla presented his credentials to Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen to officially assume his duties as the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic to the Republic of Austria.

(KPL) On July 11, 2025, at the Office of the President in Vienna, Republic of Austria, Mr. Khampheng Douangthongla presented his credentials to Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen to officially assume his duties as the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic to the Republic of Austria.
On this occasion, Ambassador Khampheng Douangthongla conveyed warm greetings and best wishes from President Thongloun Sisoulith of the Lao PDR to President Van der Bellen. He also expressed his sincere gratitude for the warm welcome and stated it was an honour and great pleasure to be entrusted with this important responsibility. He reaffirmed his commitment to contributing to the continued strengthening of the friendly relations and cooperation between Laos and Austria.
Ambassador Khampheng Douangthongla also conveyed, on behalf of the government and people of Laos, heartfelt thanks to the government and people of Austria for their support and assistance extended to the Lao PDR over the years.
In response, President Alexander Van der Bellen warmly welcomed and congratulated Ambassador Khampheng Douangthongla on his appointment as the new Ambassador of the Lao PDR to Austria. He expressed his confidence that the ambassador would make valuable contributions to the promotion and expansion of the bilateral cooperation between the two countries and wished him success in carrying out his honourable mission. The Austrian President also asked the ambassador to convey his warm greetings and best wishes to President Thongloun Sisoulith of the Lao PDR.
Laos and Austria established diplomatic relations on September 1, 1967. This year marks the 58th anniversary of their bilateral ties. The Lao PDR opened its Embassy in Vienna, Austria, in 2010. Austria, meanwhile, maintains its Embassy to Laos through its mission based in Bangkok, Thailand.
Since the establishment of diplomatic relations, the two countries have maintained and continuously strengthened their cooperation through regular exchanges of visits by high-level officials, mutual support in international arenas, and collaboration in various areas such as economy and trade, health, education, energy, agriculture and forestry, and infrastructure and transport.
