Over 80 pct of Koreans interested in AI appliances, but many hold privacy concerns: poll

(KPL/Yonhap) Over 80 percent of Republic of Korean consumers are interested in purchasing kitchen and home appliances powered by artificial intelligence (AI), but actual usage of such products remains low due to concerns over high prices and data privacy, a survey showed Tuesday.
According to the poll by consumer data platform Open Survey, 83.9 percent of respondents said they would consider purchasing AI-integrated kitchen appliances, while 84 percent expressed interest in AI home appliances.
The survey was conducted on 1,000 people aged 20 to 59 from May 16-21.
By category, AI-powered refrigerators, dishwashers and kimchi refrigerators ranked highest in interest among kitchen appliances, while air conditioners, vacuum cleaners and washing machines topped the list for home appliances.
Despite the strong interest, the poll showed that the actual adoption of AI appliances remained in the 10 percent range. According to Open Survey, respondents cited high costs and privacy concerns as deterrents.
The report found that current AI appliance users were more likely to purchase additional AI-powered devices in the future. Top cited benefits of AI-powered appliances included convenience of use and their ability to save time.
Meanwhile, 30.7 percent of respondents said they were aware of or had used newly launched AI appliance subscription services by major electronics firms, such as Samsung Electronics Co. and LG Electronics Inc.
