National Assembly Announces Major Government Reshuffle

(KPL) On June 6, 2025, the National Assembly held a press conference to announce significant government personnel changes. The update was delivered by Ms. Sounthone Sayachak, Secretariat of the Party Central Committee and Vice President of the National Assembly. The reshuffle includes the transfer and reappointment of nine senior officials, as follows:
1. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Thongsalith Mangnomek, Secretary of the Party Central Committee and Head of the Party Central Committee Office, has been appointed as Minister of Education and Sports.
2. Dr. Phet Phomphiphak, Member of the Party Central Committee and former Minister of Planning and Investment, has been transferred to a new post at the Party Central Committee Office.
3. Mr. Santiphab Phomvihane, Member of the Party Central Committee, has been appointed as Minister of Finance.
4. Dr. Vilayvong Boudakham, Member of the Party Central Committee and former Minister of Home Affairs, has been reassigned to the Party Central Committee’s Organization Committee.
5. Ms. Bounkham Vorachit, Member of the Party Central Committee and former Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, has been appointed as Governor of the Bank of the Lao PDR.
6. Mr. Phoxay Sayasone, Member of the Party Central Committee and former Minister of Energy and Mines, has been appointed as Minister of Labor and Social Welfare.
7. Ms. Baykham Khatthiya, Member of the Party Central Committee and former Minister of Labor and Social Welfare, has been appointed as Minister of Health.
8. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Linkham Douangsavanh, Alternate Member of the Party Central Committee and former Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, has been appointed as Minister of Agriculture and Environment.
9. Mr. Malaythong Kommasith, Alternate Member of the Party Central Committee, has been appointed as Minister of Industry and Commerce.
Additionally, the National Assembly approved the retirement of two government members:
Assoc. Prof. Phout Simmalavong, Member of the Party Central Committee and former Minister of Education and Sports.
Dr. Bounfeng Phoummalaisith, Member of the Party Central Committee and former Minister of Health.
These leadership adjustments are part of ongoing efforts to strengthen governance and improve administrative effectiveness across sectors.
