9th National Assembly to Focus on Economic, Legal Reforms

KPL - Asean 2024 The 9th Ordinary Session of the 9th Legislature of the National Assembly (NA) will take place from June 9 to 26, with discussions centered on economic recovery, financial policies, investment strategies, and legal reforms, officials announced Thursday.

At a June 5 press briefing, Mrs. Amphayvone Lombounpheng, Secretary of the National Assembly, outlined the session’s agenda, which includes reports on the implementation of the socio-economic development plan, state budget, and monetary policy for the first half of 2025, along with plans for the latter half.

NA members will discuss the draft 10th Five-Year National Socio-Economic Development Plan (2026–2030), evaluate key initiatives, including electric power development policies, the Visit Laos Year campaign, and nationwide legal awareness efforts and special policy proposals for infrastructure and renovation projects. 

Lawmakers will deliberate on five new draft laws including cybersecurity, Social Welfare, Public Prosecutors, General Education and Cultivation Laws.

Additionally, five existing laws are slated for amendment including Law on Medicines and Medical Products, Income Tax, Signs, Supreme People’s Court and Irrigation Laws.

The NA is set to approve resolutions on economic and budget performance (first half of 2025 and plans for the second half), energy sector policies and tourism development under the Visit Laos Year initiative, legal dissemination campaigns and special construction policies as well as a 10-year lawmaking roadmap (2026–2030) for the next Assembly term.
