Thanh Hoa holds memorial ceremony for 21 Vietnamese martyrs repatriated from Laos

(KPL/VNA) A memorial and burial ceremony was held on May 27 at Dong Tam international martyrs’ cemetery in Ba Thuoc district, the central province of Thanh Hoa, to honour 21 Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who died in Laos.
The ceremony, organised by the provincial Party Committee, People’s Council, People’s Committee, Fatherland Front Committee, armed forces, and local residents, featured floral tributes and incense offerings in remembrance of the martyrs’ sacrifices for national liberation, defence, and international solidarity.
The remains were found in Houaphanh province, Laos, by the search and repatriation team of the Thanh Hoa province Military Command during the 2024–2025 dry season. None of the martyrs has been identified.
Speaking at the event, Vice Chairman of the Thanh Hoa provincial People’s Committee Dau Thanh Tung highlighted the work as a political priority, reflecting the Party, State, and people’s deep gratitude. He noted that Thanh Hoa has repatriated thousands of martyrs in past years.
In the 2025–2026 dry season, Thanh Hoa and Houaphanh will continue coordinated efforts in the work. Houaphanh authorities said they will intensify public outreach, calling for residents’ support in identifying grave locations.
Both sides will regularly exchange experience, evaluate progress, and recognise outstanding contributions. They will also improve coordination, share information, and ensure solemn ceremonies are held in line with regulations in both countries.
Efforts will also be made to keep Party committees, authorities, and the public informed about memorial sites to support family visits and tributes.
