Government Issues Guidelines for Celebrating Lao New Year 2025

(KPL)The Lao government has issued official guidelines for the celebration of the Lao New Year (Pi Mai Lao) in 2025, emphasizing the importance of cultural preservation, safety, and frugality during the festivities.
According to the Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism, the guidelines aim to ensure the Lao New Year is celebrated in accordance with national traditions and customs.
The official holiday period will run from April 14 to April 16, 2025.
The government encourages all celebrations in the country to follow traditional practices, such as bathing Buddha images, pouring water over monks, holding Baci ceremonies, seeking blessings from elders, exchanging New Year wishes respectfully, and using clean and fragrant water with flowers in water play. Celebrations should reflect moderation, simplicity, and cultural authenticity.
Authorities have also urged the public to avoid excessive gatherings or loud parties that may disturb others or cause public disorder. Participants are advised to remain mindful of their spending and avoid extravagance.
New Year-related activities should promote Lao culture, and local wisdom, aligning with the spirit of Pi Mai Lao. Recommended events include traditional music performances, Nang Sangkhan beauty pageants, cultural parades, displays of traditional products, open-air markets, and other public events, including those held along riversides and other communal spaces.
Local authorities are expected to organize and manage these events with a focus on public safety, order, and cultural value, ensuring that Pi Mai Lao 2025 is celebrated in a joyful, respectful, and meaningful manner nationwide.
