CPC General Secretary Sends Condolence Message on Former President’s Passing

(KPL) On April 2, 2025, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and President of China, Xi Jinping, sent a message of condolences to General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP) Central Committee and President of Laos, Thongloun Sisoulith, following the passing of General Khamtay Siphandone, former President of the LPRP Central Committee and former State President.
In his message, Xi expressed deep sorrow and heartfelt condolences on behalf of the CPC, the Chinese government, the Chinese people, and in his personal capacity. He extended sincere sympathies to the family of General Khamtay.
General Khamtay was praised as a staunch communist, an outstanding senior Party and government leader of Laos, and a close comrade and friend of China. Throughout his life, he devoted his wisdom and strength to Laos’ national renewal and socialist development, making significant contributions to strengthening China-Laos party-to-party and state-to-state relations. The Chinese people will always remember him.
China and Laos, socialist neighbours connected by shared mountains and rivers, have long upheld a strong bond as good neighbours, good friends, good comrades, and good partners. China remains committed to deepening the traditional friendship between the two Parties, governments, and peoples. It is eager to work with Laos in advancing the building of a China-Laos community with a shared future and furthering the socialist cause in both nations.
The message concluded with Xi extending his best wishes for continued progress in Laos’ Party and national development under the leadership of the LPRP Central Committee, headed by General Secretary Thongloun Sisoulith.
