3rd ASEAN Youth Dialogue Opens in Luang Prabang, Aiming to Strengthen Youth Development

KPL - Asean 2024 The 3rd ASEAN Youth Dialogue 2024, themed "Enhancing Comprehensive and Resilient Supports for Sustainable ASEAN Youth Development," opened today in Luang Prabang, under the chairmanship of Monxay Laomuaxong, Secretary General of the Lao Youth Union. The event gathered a diverse range of participants, including representatives from Luang Prabang’s provincial leadership, the United Nations in the Lao PDR, ASEAN senior youth officials, the ASEAN Secretariat, youth representatives from ASEAN member states, Timor-Leste, and other invited guests.

(KPL) The 3rd ASEAN Youth Dialogue 2024, themed "Enhancing Comprehensive and Resilient Supports for Sustainable ASEAN Youth Development," opened today in Luang Prabang, under the chairmanship of Monxay Laomuaxong, Secretary General of the Lao Youth Union.

The event gathered a diverse range of participants, including representatives from Luang Prabang’s provincial leadership, the United Nations in the Lao PDR, ASEAN senior youth officials, the ASEAN Secretariat, youth representatives from ASEAN member states, Timor-Leste, and other invited guests.

In his opening remarks, Mr. Monxay emphasized the importance of the dialogue in showcasing youth’s leading role in the region. "This meeting will inspire youth from ASEAN member states, highlighting their frontline role, competence, competitiveness, and their pursuit of cooperation within ASEAN and the broader region," he stated. The event serves as a platform for the exchange of ideas and possibilities for future youth cooperation.

Throughout the dialogue, youth representatives will review the ASEAN Youth Development Index in line with each member state’s youth development strategy. They will also discuss targets and action plans proposed at the previous ASEAN Youth Dialogue in 2023. Key areas of focus include health and well-being, education, employment, entrepreneurship, social protection, and youth engagement in various sectors.

The discussions aim to strengthen cooperation within ASEAN and explore lessons learned in technology, innovation, and environmental protection to promote sustainability for future generations. 

The ASEAN Youth Dialogue, which runs from October 5-8, 2024, is supported by the ASEAN Secretariat, the United Nations International Children’s Fund (UNICEF), and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).

The outcomes of the dialogue will be presented to ASEAN leaders during the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits, scheduled to take place in Vientiane next week.
