(KPL) In response to the challenges faced by families impacted by the devastating flooding in Luang Namtha Province, the Lao Women’s Union, in collaboration with UNICEF, conducted a visit to the province to distribute essential supplies to affected households.

A delegation led by Ms. Aly Vongnobountham, President of the Lao Women’s Union, supported by Mr. Bilal Durrani, UNICEF Country Representative to the Lao PDR, and Mr. Arturo Romboli, UNICEF Deputy Representative, visited affected villages to assess the needs of the families and communities.

The partners distributed essential supplies to 545 families across 13 villages, including blankets, mosquito nets, pillows, large towels, bed linens, rain jackets and straw mats to help them recover from the flooding.

During the visit, Ms. Aly Vongnobountham reaffirmed the Lao Women’s Union’s commitment to supporting families during emergencies. “It is vital that we provide immediate assistance to those affected by the flooding,” said Ms. Aly Vongnobountham. “The Lao Women’s Union stands united alongside our key partners such as UNICEF in our mission to alleviate the suffering of families in Luang Namtha and ensure they have the basic necessities to get through this difficult time,” she added.

UNICEF has been a key and one of the first responders to the call of the government for support, following the recent flooding across the Lao PDR. In addition to the support provided by the Lao Women’s Union, UNICEF has also delivered vital water, sanitation, and hygiene supplies to impacted communities, as well as education supplies to affected schools and continues to coordinate with the Lao Government and development partners to ensure families and children receive care and support.

Mr. Bilal Durrani emphasized the organization’s commitment to supporting affected families. “UNICEF remains dedicated to supporting the government in providing relief to those impacted by the floods and to help children and their families recover and rebuild their lives following this devastating emergency situation,” stated Mr. Durrani.
